MILTON, Ky. —
Someone broke into a power substation in a city northeast of Louisville in order to steal copper wiring, causing a power outage in the process.
According to Shelby Energy Cooperative, the break-in happened at a substation in Milton, Kentucky sometime Saturday.
The cooperative said that not only was it very dangerous to cut ground wires to steal copper, but it also left several people without power.
In order to get the substation back up and operational, the cooperative said it would have to take it completely down for about three hours.
They said this would leave over 1500 members temporarily without power.
Since they reported the outage around 2 p.m. Saturday, that would make 5 p.m. the hopeful target for power to be restored.
“We will try to back feed as many members as possible while we make the repairs,” said the cooperative on its Facebook. “Please be patient with us as we make these repairs, and if you have any information about this theft please let the police know.
